Crowns

PORCELAIN CROWNS

Porcelain crowns are custom dental restorations that fit over natural teeth to hide discoloration, cracks, injury, or chipping. They provide support and strength for damaged teeth while improving the overall aesthetics of your smile. Porcelain crowns are the standard for restoring teeth that cannot be fixed with other treatments, such as dental fillings. Crowns are also used to restore dental implants or form a bridge, both of which can effectively replace a missing tooth.

Many patients choose porcelain dental crowns instead of traditional metal crowns for how well they mimic the color and durability of natural teeth. If you’re looking for a more aesthetic and long-lasting way to restore a damaged tooth, porcelain crowns are a great option.

REASONS FOR A PORCELAIN CROWN

  • Strengthen weak tooth
  • Protect a cracked or chipped tooth
  • Rebuild a broken tooth
  • Hide a severely discolored tooth
  • Protect a tooth after a root canal
  • Secure a dental bridge
  • Restore a dental implant

THE PORCELAIN CROWNS PROCEDURE

A porcelain dental crown procedure can generally be completed in two appointments. During the first visit, our dentist will prepare your tooth by removing a small portion of the natural tooth enamel. This provides space for the dental crown to fit over your tooth.

Next, you’ll have impressions taken of your tooth, using our intraoral scanner. A dental lab will use these impressions to custom-make your new porcelain crown. Before you leave your appointment, you’ll be fitted with a temporary crown.

During your second appointment, our dentist will remove the temporary crown, then place the permanent crown over your tooth. This is to check that the shape, fit, and color are correct. If so, this new crown will be bonded to your natural tooth with dental cement. You’ll leave your appointment with an aesthetic, durable new tooth!
